Can't find stored passwords even after following directions

I'm trying to find the passwords Firefox has stroed for me. Using Ver 3.6 - I followed the directions on the help site - went to troubleshooting info, found the folder - then after more looking found 2 files. Nothing was in the first and the second (signons sqlite) doesn't open at all - it sure is complicated.

Is there in fact a way to access my stored passwords and see them without needing a college degree?
