Hi all, Setting up a new computer and Thunderbird. Did a clean install and trying to add my gmail account. Typed in name, e-mail and password. Retrieve configuration from Mozilla ISP database successfully. Then when i click "Done" I get the google pop-up where I click allow Thunderbird, and the pop-up closes. Then I get a yellow notice in Thunderbird saying "Unable to login at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password."

Username/pass is correct, and configuration is from Mozilla. Tried manually and get a success when i click Re-test button.

Tried a bunch of times over the last few days. Always the same. I have no problems logging in to gmail in using my browser and the same credentials.

I'm at a loss here, thankful for any help.

Cheers!

Recently my C/Windows drive (Solid state) failed, I have the data (it was installed on the D drive of my computer) for Thunderbird however my profile as far as I can tell was stored on my now gone former C drive, I need to recover those emails as I had several personal messages from a departed friend that I had saved as well as a number of emailed receipts for travel etc for the business I am building that I need to use as write offs on my taxes. How do I recover and/or more specifically re-integrate the previous install into my current one?

I have a new installation of Windows and want to get my old Profile attached to my new installation of Thunderbird. In the past, I have done it multiple times on various new computers but can't seem to get it working this time.

My old setup (and what I want on the new one, too) was:

  - I had multiple email accounts set up on Thunderbird within the same Profile
  - my Profile was stored on my D: Drive (to save space)

I have installed a fresh copy of Thunderbird onto D Drive. I have copied my old Profiles folder (from C:/Users...) to the new Thunderbird folder on my C drive

When I then open Thunderbird, it asks to set up a new email again and no sign of my old Profiles. I'm missing something and I'm pretty sure it has to do with my old Profile being on the D drive (and that's where I still want it)

Hi, I've switched to Thunderbird from Outlook, and so far so good. However there's one thing I'm not sure how to resolve, and hoping someone can tell me how to fix it. I have 4 Gmail accounts configured in TB, and they all work perfectly fine. For 2 of them, I see all folders from Gmail, including Spam, Trash, Unread, etc., however in the first 2 that I had added I only see the standard 4: Inbox, Sent, Outbox and Trash. How do I make sure all folders (including Spam) are shown for the first 2 accounts? Thank you.

Hi,

Help article recommends installing installing version 31.8 of thunderbird and importing outlook files using that, then upgrade to the more recent version of thunderbird. However having installed 31.8 when I try to import the pst files, I'm told that thunderbird can't find mail to import. There appears to be no option to browse for the files. My outlook files are in the usual folder - documents/outlook files but thunderbird can't find them.
I'm trying to import historical emails and haven't set up an email account yet in thunderbird. Would it make a difference if I set up the account then tried to import old emails or would something elase make a difference. Any ideas would be very welcome.

Regards Steve

I'm trying to add my me.com account on thunderbird. All the information is correct, I've tried everything on the forums. It comes up with the error "Component returned failure code: 0X80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE) [nslMsgAccountManager.creatIncomingServer]"

In setting up my Email Address I used this Information

My Current Email Address My Current Password (Both work, I use them to get in my web based email account)

Protocol:IMAP Hostname: imap.mail.me.com Port: 993 Connection Security: SSL/TLS Authentication Password: Normal Password Username: name as used before the @me.com without the @me.com

Outgoing Hostname: smtp.mail.me.com Port: 587 Connection Security: STARTTLS Authentication method: Normal Password Username: my name with @me.com (__________@me.com)

Please note I've also tried this entire process with icloud.com...many times. I attached the picture below of the error as it's Checking the password.

I don't know what else to do.

I use Windows 11 Version of Thunderbird is 115.4.3 (64-bit) at the time of this writing, it is up to date.

I've been forced to use Windows so I installed Thunderbird 119 on Windows 11. (Please note that I've been using Thunderbird for 20 years on Mac and Linux and am happy how it's set up on those platforms)

I think the UI on Windows sucks and I want to have the same setup and same GUI on the Windows version of Thunderbird.

How do I copy all the settings or config or whatever from the version I am happy with (Mac) to the Windows 11 version?

PS the biggest piss off is threaded views within the message pane and the missing buttons at the top of the message pane. I don't want to see all the past replies in the Message Pane and have to scroll down down down down where I accidentally found the send button. This 115+ UI isn't prime time yet.

I have read numerous posts and replies on the forum about updating from Thunderbird (102) to Supernova (115) but there doesn't appear to be a clear method used by the majority of users to do this.

In the release notes from 115.0.1 to 115.2.2 it clearly states ' Thunderbird version 115 is only offered as direct download from thunderbird.net and not as an upgrade from Thunderbird version 102 or earlier. A future release will provide updates from earlier versions.'

However, from 115.2.3 onwards, that statement has been removed but there is nothing saying that this, or other updates, will allow you to update from earlier versions!

I am prompted daily about an update to Thunderbird via the release update channel to update to Supernova, the latest version being 115.4.3, see attached screenshot.

I could also download this latest version and run it as an exe file to update Thunderbird and there are suggestions about removing Thunderbird, installing Supernova and then changing/adjusting the profiles etc to get it working.

So my questions are:

1) Can Thunderbird be updated via the release update channel as I have always done successfully, without messing about with profiles etc?

2) If not, is there a release coming that will allow the update from earlier versions?

3) If not, then what is the best solution to do the update successfully?

Thanks for your help.

I desperately (sobbing here) need someone to hold my hand and walk me through this!!! I uninstalled the newest version (115) and installed the previous version (102) because of an outgoing mail problem. It gave me a warning that the newer version changed my profiles and it's not compatible so I downloaded the new version again. The import screen doesn't look anything like what it says in the help files. I don't have an option for importing from a previous version.

Please rescue me. I run a nonprofit and I have deadlines and meetings next week that I was supposed to make arrangements for and I've been dealing with this for almost a week.

My account has disappeared in Thunderbird and I am unable to add it back again.

My employer uses microsoft outlook accounts, and I have thus relied on the Owl ad-on for years to access this account.

I appreciate that the problems that I am experiencing are likely due to Owl, but I would appreciate any insights anyone might have on the source of problems and how to overcome them.

If I use automatic configuration then the search does not seem to bring up Owl as it should according to the manual (i.e., there is no exchange/office 365 option).

I am also unable to add the account with manual configuration, and I get an "error is undefined" message. I have attached a screenshot

I have contacted Owl support but have not received a response.

Any help would be much appreciated.

During the upgrade to Thunderbird 115, my Gmail inbox disappeared under the unified Inbox folder at the top. I can find my Roadrunner accounts listed under the Inbox folder, but to get to my Gmail inbox, I have to go down the pane to the listed accounts, where all of the Gmail folders appear, including the inbox. I want all of my inboxes to appear under the Inbox folder at the top, just like the Thunderbird version I upgraded from. My Gmail account uses IMAP so that it works with Thunderbird.

Hi,

I have Thunderbird version 17.0.8 installed in my computer (Windows 10). I would like to download a more recent version while keeping the older version. I would use the older version only to visualize my old emails (huge archive), so no updates are needed. I would use the newer version with a new profile for my future emails. Can you help?

Thanks a lot in advance,

I have tried every method suggested here to migrate my emails and settings to my new computer, but nothing has worked. I tried the export then import path, but just kept getting an error message. Used all the folders just in case I was doing something wrong. So then I found the option of copying the old profile into the new profiles folder - that didn't work either. I just tried again importing from the file I exported, but it doesn't bring in anything at all. I am at a complete loss, I really don't want to lose all this information, which is why I did the export in the beginning.

Hello, I very recently bought a new laptop and I am trying to set up Thunderbird to access my mail server. I still using my old machine so I have used it to copy the POP3 info etc. But Thunderbird doesn't like anything I've entered. It initially came up with "GoDaddy" connections which I have no connection with at all, so I set up the incoming and outgoing manually copying, exactly from my old laptop, but no success. This is really frustrating. Any suggestions?
