Firefox will crash every time I try to open it. It then opens in safe mode. I have reset it and restarted the computer and it still crashes. I have sent over 127 crash reports in December alone. I have tried to reinstall but it stops and says it cannot continue to install. None of my programs that use the internet will open I get a "stopped working" or Launcher stopped working message. (PCMatic, Quicken, Malewarebytes, Superfast PC) and many other programs that I've downloaded and uninstalled after they will not load. Nothing seems to correct the problem

Short of doing a clean install of windows and starting all over again I do not know what to try next. Betty

Chosen solution

I stopped the hardware acceleration and firefox opened in normal mode. My programs still have the launching problem. (Quicken and PCMatic) when I open them when they try to open I get a launcher stopped working. I get the same problem with IE as well. I'm running the suggested scans right now to check for malware.

First guess is that it is a Malware problem. You will need to check that by scanning with multiple up-to-date tools.

  • Are you posting this message from the problem machine or from the one with problems.
  • You mention a lot of crashes. Please paste into your next reply some of the Crash IDs. Preferably the most recent ones and from Firefox used in safe mode and with all plugins disabled.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

Please follow the steps below to provide us crash IDs to help us learn more about your crash.

  1. Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A Submitted Crash Reports list will appear, similar to the one shown below.
  2. Copy the 5 most recent Report IDs that start with bp- and paste them into your response here.

Thank you for your help!

If you have submitted crash reports then please post the IDs of one or more recent crash reports that have a "bp-" prefix:

  • bp-xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx

You can find the IDs of the submitted crash reports on the about:crashes page.

  • You can open the about:crashes page via the location bar, like you open a website, or open the crash reports page via "Help > Troubleshooting Information".
