I have downloaded the latest version of Firefox but when I come to install it I get the splash screen telling me it is extracting, this then disappears and nothing else happens. I have tried installing several times but nothing happens. what is wrong and how is it rectified.

Download and save the full Firefox installer to the desktop and start the installation with a double-click on the desktop icon.

You can find the full version of the latest Firefox 25.0 release in all languages and for all Operating Systems here:

If you keep having problems then try to disable your security (anti-virus) software temporarily.

Tried all this and it makes no difference. Firefox was running well until I did the recent update and then I got messages telling me that the 'patch failed' after which it crashed or froze. I uninstalled it and installed the latest version and that is when the problems started.

Have you upgraded to Windows 8.1? If you have that might be why. 8.1 is rather buggy.

Can you install the full version if you boot the computer in Safe mode with network support?

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

You can also try a clean (re)install and delete the Firefox program folder before installing.
