I just installed Firefox. But when I go to YouTube and other sites it says I need to install A Flash Player. I already have it install, latest version and it works fine when I use Google Chrome and IE10. Why it's telling me I need to install it and how can I use Firefox to watch YouTube? Thanks!

Hello jokera,

Please follow the following procedure:

Manually copy the contents of the

  • C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins

Hi jokera ,

Go to my computer > Click drive C > ClickWindows folder > Click system 32 folder > Click theMacromed folder > Click the Flash folder.

Copy all the contents of that folder.

Then

Go to my computer > Click drive C > ClickProgram files > Click Mozilla Firefox folder > Click thePlugins folder > Paste all the contents you copied.

Report if this helps! Thanks!

Thanks for trying to help me fix this Shashankrai. I opened the Flash folder and there are 5 folders. Clicked on copy, but when I go to drive C there are 2 Program Files: 1- Program files 2- Program files (x86)

Which one should I use? Thanks!

What should I do?

It's better not to copy the DLL file manually because then it will be in a location that doesn't get updated automatically.

Firefox should automatically find the 32-bit Flash plugin during its registry scan. Please see this thread for further troubleshooting tips: Adobe Flash won't download so that I can use some items on RoadRunner.com

Thanks jscher! it seems that is a very common issue/problem when using Firefox, many posts, but not many answers, I wonder why Mozilla has not fixed this so far, after so long...I'll check your link and thanks for the warning.

IE uses the ActiveX version of Flash.

Chrome comes with its own version of Flash as part of the basic installation; Google includes proprietary software in some cases, such as Flash.

Mozilla feels strongly that Firefox be completely open source (part of Mozilla's Mission). Firefox uses the Plugin version of Flash as most non-IE browsers need for Flash presentations.

So, the Control Panel in Windows should show two versions of Flash, both the ActiveX version and the Plugin version so that Flash is installed for both IE and for Firefox.

Shashankrai: Had real trouble the last 2 days, some Flash content playing, then none! But your simple solution worked perfectly! There always seems to be some confusion between Adobe Flash and Shockwave (the Plugin shows as Shockwave). Actually, I just copied the Flash folder into the Firefox plugins folder, not just the contents. But it worked! Thank you Shashankrai!!

Hi cashtime2013 and Shashankrai, moving the DLL to a Firefox folder may lead to a conflict after the next Flash update, i.e., Firefox trying to use both plugins. If you notice strange behavior on Flash pages, please check for that on the Add-ons page and disable or remove the older one. (Steps for that are detailed, so I'll save them for later if needed.)

Thanks jscher2000. No Flash webpage content worked after updating Flash, but Shockwave Flash plugin showed up to date in Add-ons. Until I copied the Flash folder, the only item in the Plugins folder was the np_hoem_x DLL. Am I to assume that Flash update should of installed into the Plugins folder? Anyway, it all works again

Hi cashtime2013, Firefox scans the Windows Registry to locate Flash and other plugins installed and maintained outside of Firefox's own folders. This thread covers troubleshooting for Firefox not finding Flash after it is installed: Adobe Flash won't download so that I can use some items on RoadRunner.com.

Thanks jscher2000. I followed the troubleshooting guide, and everything's OK. I've now deleted the Flash folder from the plugins folder, and Flash still works on web pages.......
