Trying to recover Thunderbird emails

so basically I did a full factory reset on my father-in-law's old computer in the hope it would gain some performance, but didn't realize his Thunderbird account stored all his emails local(pop) and not on a server.

Is there anyway to recover those emails?

I think they're gone.I believe a reset clears everything.
