Hello,

After installing the new Windows 10 Creators Edition Update (1703), Thunderbird and Gmail seem to be having an issue.

The problem is when I try to send an email through my Gmail account, it takes a really long time. It usually works right away. I'm not having this issue with my other Yahoo SBC email account. This happens most of the time. A couple of times it didn't when I replied to a new email right away.

Also, on occasion it takes awhile to retrieve emails from the Gmail server as well. I'm also noticing that some websites are taking a long time to load in using Firefox now too. Not all sites, just some.

I'm using Norton Internet Security, but have not had any issues in the past with it. I tried turning off the anti-virus and firewall, but that didn't fix the issue.

The new Windows 10 does come with a new "Windows Defender Security Center" component. I tried allowing Thunderbird inside of it's firewall settings, but once again this didn't help.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to a fix for this?

Thanks,

Michael

Try to start Windows in safe mode with networking enabled. - Win10 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12376/windows-10-start-your-pc-in-safe-mode

Still in Windows safe mode, start Thunderbird in safe mode. - https://support.mozilla.org/kb/safe-mode

Does the problem go away?

Hello there,

OK tried to start Windows in safe mode with networking enabled. Twice my system wouldn't start with networking enabled. I pressed 5 and then I pressed F5, and both times I was put in safe mode with out networking.

Man I hate safe mode.

Any more ideas?

Thanks.

Not using Win 10 here. You may ask about Windows safe mode in a Microsoft forum.

Hello,

I traced the problem down to my Internet connection. I really thought that it was the Windows 10 update as everything was working fine until I installed it. I tried *so* many things fix this issue, all in vain. What a waste of time.

Anyways, power cycling my modem/router fixed the issue.

I found it was my internet connection when I brought my laptop to a friends house and had no issues.

It's hard to trouble shoot when you only have one Internet connection and one computer. Next time I have a connectivity issue, I will reset my Internet first thing.

Thanks,

Michael
