Hi,

I have accidentally deleted the trash bin in Thunderbird. I read on many forums that you could delete the .msf files in the profile folders but this only recreated my substitute trash bin I created. No matter how many times I delete this new substitute bin it always reappears even if I delete it as well as the .msf file. I created a new profile and added the account where Thunderbird once again recreated my substitute bin.

The problem with this substitute bin is that whenever I delete an e-mail it doesn't end up in that bin. It just disappears.

When creating this new bin I chose it as the destination for deleted e-mails but they still just disappear. I tried selecting some other folder as this destination and removing the folder + .msf files again with no success.

Sidenote: I can only delete files through gmail (in browser) since whenever I try to delete a folder in Thunderbird absolutely nothing happends.

I would really appreciate any suggestions!

Thanks, Sören

Hello Sören,

There are a number of suggestions at http://kb.mozillazine.org/IMAP_Trash_folder that may help you.

For example, from what they say, I deduce that you might need to delete the panacea.dat file (Mail folder cache) in the root of the profile in addition to deleting the two files referring to your substitute bins, before restarting Thunderbird.
