cant download thunderbird on my chromebook - says file type not supported; go to chrome web store and find app to open file, but i have no idea what to look for

i have no idea what to do to get thunderbird to load on my chromebook - after i download thunderbird, i click on it and it says file type not supported, visit chrome web store to find an app to open file. I do not know what to look for or what to do.

Unfortunately, Thunderbird doesn't support Chrome OS, which means it can't be installed on a Chromebook. This question addresses the same topic: Can Thunderbird be installed on a Chrome Computer

Thunderbird and Firefox for desktop is only for Windows XP SP2 and newer, Mac OSX 10.6+ and Linux.

Maybe if you dual boot with Linux you could.
