I insert a valid link using inset|link in text. ("Attach the source of this link to the message" is not checked.) The link appears blue and underlined as it is supposed to. I send the message to myself. The link appears blue and underlined in both the sent and received message as it is supposed to. The cursor changes to a hand as it is supposed to when I hover over it. Also, if I look at the message source, the link looks like a normal html link (e.g, hello fox&fox goodbye
). However, when I hover over it, the url is not displayed at the bottom of the message window as it would normally be. When i click on it, nothing happens. The default browser (Firefox) doesn't open. Links in other e-mails I receive work normally. My Thunderbird version is 31.6.0 running on Windows XP.

I don't have anti virus scanning mail. I also tried this on Windows 7 and had the same problem.
