On Thunderbird inbox message list, I no longer see icon showing I've replied to a message, etc; can I turn that feature back on?

This "replied" or "forwarded", etc little graphic/icon would appear just left of a message subject on a list of messages, for example in my Thunderbird inbox. Just noticed it's not there any more and don't know why not. Can I restore that feature? Thanks.

Maybe we should write this off as "user error". Those "replied" icons are appearing as expected now when I tried replying to a message; and I found a message in Trash folder that had a replied icon on it (and the icon stayed with the message when I moved it back to my inbox).

So only anomaly I'm left with is a message from yesterday that I did reply to (and my reply is in my local Sent folder) but the message does not show the "replied" icon/graphic symbol next to the message subject. I don't see how I could be responsible for that missing icon, but i fthings continue now to seem normal, I'm willing to take the blame.

Sorry for bringing the issue up, apparently unnecessarily.
