Window fails to repaint sometimes

I've run into an odd problem in the last week or so - Firefox seems to be failing to repaint properly occasionally.

For example, if I have a scrolling visualization for a music player (foobar2000) in the background, then I switch to Firefox, the contents of the Firefox window begin scrolling as well! Other problems occur when I close a tab, as the tab list at the top of the screen does not update until I mouse over everything. Similarly, when I switch tabs, the page sometimes does not reflect the contents of the tab I just switched to until I mouse over everything, or switch tabs back and forth.

I've tried updating my video drivers, but they're already on the latest version. I've tried turning on and off desktop composition, but that hasn't helped.

Installed Plug-ins

Battlelog Game Launcher (2.5.1) Battlelog Game Launcher (2.4.0)

Having more than one version of a program may cause issues.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode by holding down the <Shift(Mac Options)> key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?

Hello,

Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.

You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).

Then perform these steps:

  1. Open Firefox Options window (Preferences on Mac or Linux) as follows:
    • In Firefox 29.0 and above, click the menu button New Fx Menu and select Options for Windows or Preferences on Mac or Linux.
    • In Firefox 28.0 and previous versions, click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
  2. In the Firefox Options (or Preferences) window, click the Advanced tab, then select General.
  3. In the settings list, you should find the Use hardware acceleration when available checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
  4. Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.

Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:

Hardware acceleration was already disabled, so I don't think that's the issue.

It must be a problem with your video drivers. I'd recommend downloading them from the website then reinstalling them. Does this problem happen with any other browser or program? Does this happen in Firefox Safe Mode?

My video drivers are already updated, as there hasn't been a new version since July.

I tried turning on hardware acceleration instead of turning it off and I haven't seen the problem as frequently, although there's still a few failed repaints and glitched here and there.

I'll turn it off and test out Safe Mode later.

Uninstalled the plug-ins, and I've turned hardware acceleration on. Problem seems to be fixed now, although I'm not sure which one fixed it. Thanks.

Try download the current Battlelog Game Launcher, and see if the problem returns. If so, try safe mode. Also turn off hardware acceleration at some point during your test.
