I downloaded the latest version of Firefox 41.0.2 two days ago and ever since my scroll bar has been jumping to the bottom and I cannot get it to go back up. Sometimes it does it right in the middle of reading an article or my Yahoo mail and then I can't go back to the beginning or middle of the article to finish. If I close Firefox, it is OK for a while, but then it starts in again. It only does it when in Firefox, not other programs. I am on Windows 7. It isn't my mouse, because the mouse functions fine when I am not in Firefox. It is a problem with the scroll bar malfunctioning while I am inside the browser.

You may have switched on caret browsing.

You can toggle caret browsing off/on by pressing F7 (Mac: fn + F7).

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Accessibility: [ ] "Always use the cursor keys to navigate within pages"

Note that this is an accessibility feature of Firefox.

That accessibility option was not checked and is, and has always been, off.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) to see if that has effect.
