This is essentially the same problem as https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1430726 . I am running 128.1.0esr, and the problem surfaced recently. I installed 128.0.1esr (replacing 115.13.0) on July 31. and the problem might have been re-introduced there. I have not researched the version numbers, so I do not know why I went from 115.13.0 to 118.0.1esr.

Here is the problem. I want to see all of the mails with a certain string in the sender field. After I have typed the first character in the filter field, Thunderbird goes into a "Not Responding" state, and I see a spinning blue circle. After I have entered the entire string, it takes a while before TB becomes responsive. When TB becomes responsive, I can delete all of the selected messages (in less than a second). But when I then remove or change the string, TB takes a lot of time before becoming responsive again. Wayne Mery posted at the end of that other archived thread "115.9.0 has a patch related to quick filters which may help." Has that patch somehow been regressed? Thanks.

The latest update is requiring me to reinstall all of my email accounts. Need to go back and re-establish all accounts with email name, passwords etc. Very disappointing and will take me a couple of hours to fix things.

New layout is not appealing nor functional. A step backwards.

If further experiences are like this, I will remove Thunderbird from my systems.

I tried to open a 'Punchbowl evite' from a friend, but was required to 'log into my email server again through the evite portal.' RED FLAG. I (stupidly) did, or tried to. The evite never opened, but the friend who appeared to have sent it said her email had been hacked and her whole address book had been receiving these 'Punchbowl evites.' This is an infection or phishing, which has disabled my Thunderbird. Even when I try to read an old AOL email already downloaded to my computer by Thunderbird, this fake AOL log-in page pops up, but at the top it says 'https://tsdtocl.com/'. I tried changing my direct AOL password. I tried blocking this website on Google Chrome using the 'Block Site' extension. Neither had any effect. Thunderbird is still locked out of my AOL, and the fake AOL website keeps popping up.

I would appreciate any advice you can offer.

Thunderbird 115.1.8 (most recent), Windows 10

This is going to drive me awy from Thunderbird - at random, it refreshes and opens all folders when connecting to IMAP accounts, leaving all folders open. Screenshop attached of part of folder tree - it happens to each and every sub-folder in the account(s). Sometimes it's just on one IMAP account that I have defined, sometimes more than one. Some points that might help (or not):

  • The status line says that it is downloading messages, even though I've told it to only download headers
  • This happens on more than one installation of Thunderbird on different machines (home deskside and laptop), all on Windows 10. I don't have access to Linux but might try it on Linux on a Chromebook. I've avoided Windows11 so far.
  • no way to reproduce this on demand; just random
  • Persists at random after a clean installation of TBird with completely new profiles
  • Takes ages to close all folders - I think I've seen elsewhere that an option to collapse all folders by, for example, a right-click on the top-level folder and an option in the context menu, would be very useful
  • happens to different IMAP hosts - my personal accounts are on UK2, but also affect gmail and IONOS-hosted accounts
  • is an issue with many previous versions - certainly since Supernova was released, maybe earlier

Much as I like the TBird interface, I can't continue to live with this - I think it's back to Outlook (I have a 365 account so thiis is the full-fat Outlook) or maybe invest in an emClient license, where their limited free version seems robust and has a decent interface. Might also look at the email client in the Vivaldi browser.

Any advice that might help me stay on TBird would be welcome. Thank you

I changed my Comcast password, and TB won't work and asks me for the new password. I give it my new password, but it doesn't work.

Does Comcast use the same password for my online account as my main email, or are they different?

How can I fix this problem?

PS - I can log on and receive email to me but I can't send email - even to myself. It asks for the password but it doesn't work.

Added - I tried to install TB on a new computer. All I used to have to do is enter my email address and password and it would set it up. Now it says that is has to search for my XFinity ID (it shows my house address), but it can't find my Xfinity ID. Same problem?

Something happened, and I lost many of the mailboxes in my Joshua Calev account. The Joshua Calev 1.jpg shows how my listing looks now, and Joshua Calev 2.jpg shows how it used to look. Where can I find those missing files (I do have a backup) to restore them? I can't just backup my whole Thunderbird as I'm using 4 different accounts (that's what I love about Thunderbird) and that would overwrite the latest emails I received in my other accounts.

I am using Thunderbird Beta 130.0b1 (64-bit).

Thank you for any help you can offer.

Got a new pc, loaded Thunderbird on it, and used Thunderbird export/import tool to move everything over; seemed to work fine.... EXCEPT now all my incoming mail automatically gets put in junk folder. I cannot locate any setting that should be causing this. I get quite a lot of different mail in a day, average about 40 and can't find anything online to help me figure out what to do. Should be a simple thing hopefully.

I have been using TBird for many years, but only for email. I have about 15,000 emails and an 18 GB profile. If I start using TB for calendar events and tasks, will that substantially increase the profile size and does that become an unwieldy folder to maintain in terms of errors occurring with time, and in terms of transferring it to a second PC?

Provide an option in global settings, to use a SINGLE, MASTER "MsgFilterRules.dat" file that applies to ALL accounts vs one for each account.

My self - and MANY other users - (based upon forums) have been attempting to create a single, consolitated .dat file, then paste it into each accounts Profile sub-directory. One issue is that periodically a user must repeat the process due to additional filters created over time, but only in its relative account.

I did not set up a password to view my passwords now I can't get out my passwords. I'm the only one who has access to the computer so there is no need for this "added security", more added annoyance. I've never had to have a password before to look up a password on one of my accounts but now I'm stuck with this function turned on. I think they must have forced it on me in a resent update because I just looked at my passwords last week. Yes, I know there is a thing to reset my passwords in Thunderbird and hopefully let me turn this silly requirement off. But I've tried that and it did nothing at all.
