I have the same problem but am using XP with all up to date service packs installed. The only way I can get the browser to work again is by going into task manager and closing down the process which is for some reason still running in the background. I have also found that from some reason this version does not work well with Horde my online mail client: sometimes it hangs for long periods and does not open all of the links (which are java script), and sometimes it just crashes and I have to use control alt del to exit. I have changed Horde to open everything in the same window and that seems to have worked which indicates to me that the problem for this lies with Block pop up windows exceptions not being properly applied... and yes I do still have my mail clients site in the list of exceptions! A proper fix would be great :^ )

One other thing: after things go haywire when using my mail client clicking the browser tool bar or right clicking in the browser just brings up a blank box.

and it has just done it again!

Nothing in the applications tab of Task Manager but Firefox will not open no matter how long you wait... but check the processes tab and it's running in the background as it has not fully closed down from the last use.

Okay back again. This time Firefox crashed when checking exchange rates on Google.

Screen shots show: The blank menu window and the process tab showing Firefox using 25% of the CPU. (Currently when typing Firefox flickers between 0% & 1% CPU usage) The applications tab in task manager showing that the application is still running and has not crashed (even though it has) (here Firefox was using 27% of the CPU)

The other thing is that that this seems not to generate any crash log so perhaps Firefox have not been aware of the problem until now.

I upgraded to 4.0b4 Beta 2 days ago and I have had no crashes, no failure to close and all of the Java script problems have vanished. Normally I'd not advise people to rush out and try beta versions but this one seems more stable than the official release!
