Why does closing Firefox close Thunderbird 3.1.9 at the same time?

When I close Firefox 4.0, either by clicking X, or by file\exit, Thunderbird 3.1.9 and any open emails also close. Closing Thunderbird does not affect Firefox or any open Firefox windows. Vista, fully updated.

Thanks,

Eckis

Hmmm, Windows may view Thunderbird as a task belonging to Firefox if you started Thunderbird from within Firefox. Does it happen if you start Thunderbird separately before launching Firefox?

I have never started Thunderbird from within Firefox. I do start Firefox from links in Thunderbird email occasionally, as with this instance. The problem exists no matter how I open the two apps. If I close Firefox, it also closes Thunderbird. Thanks for the response. This certainly isn't the worst problem I have ever had, but i am quite interested in finding out the cause.

Could it be one of your add-ons???

To see whether a plain vanilla factory install has the same interaction, you can start Firefox with a new blank profile. Do a minimal amount of activity, then close it and see what happens.

For information on how to start up in Firefox's profile manager so you can create new profiles or switch between them, see Managing profiles.

@jscher2000, thanks for the suggestion. I had already tried that, in a manner of speaking. I uninstalled FF 3.1(?) early yesterday after I decided that I will stick with ver 4. When I did that, my old stuff that was being used by ver 4.0 disappeared on me. Restoring the addons I have been used to was all the experience with profiles, etc. I want for a while.

Anyway, thanks again, and any further suggestions would be appreciated.
