While on the internet yesterday, a page suddenly appeared titled Security Analyst - Mozilla Firefox. It said my computer was infected with five viruses and prompted me to download and run the attached protection software (which I didn't) . Since I have anti-virus software and scan my computer regularly, I'm wondering if this page was actually sent by Mozilla Firefox, or if it was a fake. So, my question is, does Firefox actually send such advisories + software to users?

Thank you for your help!

You should anyway do a malware check with a few malware scan programs.
You need to use all programs because each detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database.

This will not be sent by Mozilla, they do not send out such advisories. It will be a rogue site that is trying to get you to install some malware/virus.

No, Firefox doesn't send stuff like that, it was a fake page. Mozilla doesn't try to sell you anything, all their software is free. Their only products are the web browsers - Firefox & SeaMonkey- and the Thunderbird email program.

If you would have responded to it, you would gotten some Malware installed that would have caused you many problems.

Thanks so much to the two people who answered my question. It was a big relief! The funny thing is when I contacted my anti-virus customer support about this, they told me my computer was infected and I should purchase software to remove it. Have a nice day!

I had this problem too. It told me I had 12 viruses on my computer, I scanned with ZoneAlarm Security Suite and found nothing at all. I'm still going to do another scan just to be absolutely sure.

I was searching google for some crocheting instructions, and clicked on a link that appeared safe: instead I got this site..the site almost had me fooled, but I didn't click the button because I suspected that this is not quite right. The address on the browser was: http://www2.networker23.co.cc/?................(a very long address with numbers and letters).

Be aware that the above mentioned scanners will not detect and remove all malware, so if you still have symptoms that indicate a malware infection then you need to get help from experts on one of the forums that specialize in malware removal.

Is there a way to block these popups? I have the URL written down but Norton nor Microsoft will let me block a specific popup.
