Yesterday, I received an involuntary Mozilla Firefox page/folder called Security Analyst with the red, bold and blinking font messages my System Folders are infected with 5 viruses each in Shared Documents and in Hard Drive (C:). I clicked on the Start Protection in the Recommended action and then received several pop up windows with "packupdate107_2129.exe" and these prompted me to save, which I then did and I saw them in the Downloads list. I then tried to close out/exit that page/folder but it popped up a warning saying my computer may be harmed or crash if I exit this. Now I still have it open and don't know if it is safe for me to go ahead and close this page/folder out. Meanwhile I have performed a scan with AVG free version and it's Resident Shield located several virus/spy-ware/mal-ware names which I sent to the Virus Vault. I also did other scans*and these are all showing no infections now (apart some "low risk" Cookies). I still can't seem to safely close out/exit that page/folder, "Security Analyst". Please help, with sincere thanks.

That Security Analyst page is not from Mozilla, it is Scareware - open the Windows Tasks Manager > Processes tab, locate that process - highlight it and use the Kill Process button. Do not install those programs you downloaded, delete them (clearing the downloads list in Firefox doesn't delete the actual downloaded files) - as it will just install Malware and cause you a lot of grief.

Thank you for your help! I will try this; but where else do I need to delete these programs? I did check in Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs, but these don't seem to be listed there. I've already removed them from the Downloads list. Please help, again. Appreciatively.

P.S. Windows Tasks Manager result - I saw the open session listed in Tasks Manager, Applications, which I highlighted and then clicked on the End Task button. But then, a pop up message said that the system cannot end this program as it is waiting for a response from me! And, another pop up repeated that if I close or exit that page my computer may be harmed or crash! Then, when I selected the Processes tab in Tasks Manager, a long list of items with unrecognized names and alpha-numeric code names appeared - nothing to the effect of the virus names, the packupdate107_2129.exe, or the Security Analyst page name. I am now still not sure how to proceed. Please help.

To ensure that no malware has been installed, try running several malware scanners. It is best to run several as each will pick up things that the others miss. Some scanners you can try are:

An add-on that you can use to prevent this sort of problem arising is NoScript. Sites like the rogue Security Analyst site rely on JavaScript, the NoScript add-on blocks JavaScript on all sites unless you allow the JavaScript to run. It can take a little while to get NoScript set up so that it allows JavaScript on the safe sites that you regularly visit, but I think it is worth it for the extra security that NoScript provides.
