I have just re-image my work computer and I am trying to set firefox back up again and nothing has synced. Before I nuked my all install I checked that sync was working and it appeared to be fine (I didn't know my sync password but the help guide said that I could reset it when I signed in again so I did that after the re-image). After signing in firefox says that all my stuff will sync down but nothing at all has synced and I really really need my bookmarks back.

hello, resetting the password (which is also the encryption key) will wipe all sync data on the server. if you have done that, it won't be possible to retrieve that data.

I've lost my Firefox Sync account information - What to do

Oh for fuck sake what a fucking useless feature. There is no way to reset your password while sync is running other than disconnecting your account and trying to sign back in and use the forgot password link there. The is the second time I have been fucked over by firefox sync.

sync isn't a backup feature unfortunately but a system intended to keep multiple devices on the same level. you can change a password for an active/connected account at https://accounts.firefox.com/ ...

This only lets you change your password if you know it, it does not let you reset your password if you have forgotten it (I know I tried this before I wiped my pc assuming that when I did a password reset it wouldn't do something so stupid to actually wipe everything that had been synced [and yes I did read the FAQ before all of this and saw no mention of it wiping the sync data]).
