I'm using the newest version of Thunderbird and during the last week or so I sometimes can't receive or send e-mails. It says: "Login to server imap.sfr.fr with username bwidmer2@sfr.fr failed",and there are 3 boxes to choose from: "enter new password","cancel", "retry". The same happens to my other 2 email adresses. But there are days, when it suddenly works again. I've checked my account settings and they are correct. What do I have to do?

Hello

this kind of intermittent problem hints strongly at a provider problem.

Are you 2 other accounts with the same provider (note that an email @numericable is the same provider...) ? if yes, it means nothing that all 3 accounts have problems at the same time, it could still be a provider problem. If no (let's say another account is with google or microsoft), the fact that you have all 3 accounts not working at the same time could still be a local (client) problem.

Yes, the other two accounts are with the same provider. And strangely enough, tonight everything is working again! But it has something to do with Thunderbird,as I can get emails directly through the provider website all the time. So what else can I do about it?

Sorry, no. That's as logical as to think that it's not Carauchclerc's fault if you don't receive the stuff you ordered by internet, because you can take your car to the next hypermarket from Carauchclerc to buy it directly. That's 2 different services by the same business. One can work while the other fails.

In the email case, for a big provider, email is managed on hundred of servers and your imap access is managed by front ends that can differ from the one used by web access. Also, the network paths used to access these servers will differ.
