Have been using AOL as an app with Firefox for quite a few years but am now having trouble. I can access AOL account just fine but I now have very slow response in opening email and frequently get message that "having a problem accessing that mail". I have even had system "lock up" with AOL mail screen not showing messages. Logging out/in to AOL does not seem to help nor does rebooting computer. PC is running Win7 Home (64bit) and have installed Firefox 43.0.4 for 64bit. Please advise.

Oddly enough this also happens in Firefox, Chrome and IE9. Scanned for malware with no results. Finally I downloaded AOL desktop and surprise, I can now open AOL mail, but only in their desktop. This appears to be both blackmail and coercion by AOL. I say that because this problem is VERY common on the net with ALL browsers. Any other possibilities? Chosen solution

Try to clear the cache and remove cookies only from websites that cause problems if it happens again.

"Clear the Cache":

Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Thanks, Sumayah.

Cleared the cache and, rather than editing list of cookies, I just stopped 3rd Party Cookies. System seems much more responsive now! I will add clearing the cache to my list of weekly system maintenance actions. Thanks!
