We have upgraded to the latest FF Since then, nearly every time I am busy to make a posting on my personal or our work FB page FF freezes >greys out > (Firefox not responding). Not while simply looking at FB. There is nothing I can do I wait and wait the waiting symbol keeps turning and does not stop. Alt+Ctrl+Del and stop FF application is the only way out. Reinstalling FF, disabling extensions that have worked fine for year is NOT an option. I use a legal WIN7 Pro and the MS anti virus that works fine for since it was offered. I have "No Script and Ad block" enabled but that is nothing new. All this is happening since the last FF automatic upgrade!!! PLEASE solve my problem with a clear reply and not sending me to read more FAQ. Thank you.

Have you tried the NoScript option to temporarily let all scripts run to see whether that makes any difference? If that helps, it could indicate that Facebook is using a new server that needs to be approved on the NoScript pop-up.

To test whether Flash is an issue, could you try setting Flash to Click-to-Play ("Ask to Activate"). This will delay Flash from starting on a page until you approve it.

To set "Ask to Activate", open the Add-ons page using either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Plugins. Look for "Shockwave Flash" and change "Always Activate" to "Ask to Activate".

When you visit a site that wants to use the Flash, you should see a notification icon in the address bar and one of the following: a link in a black rectangle in the page or an infobar sliding down between the toolbar area and the page.

For Facebook purposes, try to see whether you can reply without allowing Flash. Any difference?

Hi vicarious1,
Sorry you are having problems with FaceBook hanging.

I have noticed a few posts about problems with Facebook recently. Sorry I can not give you a solution at present because I do not know what causes this.

I am making a presumption that it is some addon or third party software that is causing the problem. Rather difficult to investigate if no one wants to try Firefox in safemode and with plugins disabled.

No one is suggesting you operate Firefox permanently like that just that you help in trying to find the problem. Your post includes the plugins details but you did not provide full troubleshooting information, and we do not even know what Firefox extensions you use.

If you want to help please

  1. Create an new additional Firefox profile for test purposes
    Disable or remove Add-ons_how-to-disable-plugins
  2. Start Firefox in SafeMode using the new profile
Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode
  3. Ensure all plugins are disabled
  4. Using only Facebook see if you can make it freeze
    • Take note of what you do
    • Restart and repeat that, does it still freeze again

Please post back and explain what makes FB freeze.
Or to confirm Firefox does not freeze in that configuration when using Facebook.
That may help in identifying the problem.
