Change in back button behavior?

more options

A long press of the back button used to bring up the recent history of the browser, and let me select which link I would like to go back to. Now after an update to firefox 56 I believe. I have to hold the back button to view the list. Requiring two handed operation. If the button is released the menu disappears. How do I restore the previous behaviour?

In Firefox 57, I'm seeing something different: after long pressing the back button, a little diagram shows up at the bottom of the screen showing the history of the tab. There is a separate list for the forward button. Interesting that this keeps changing.
