takes 5 to 10 minutes to load mozilla firefox

I have been using firefox for many years and the problem i have is that it takes between 5 & 10 minutes to load the browser...Other browsers I have used load almost immediately. I have tried your help topics but it dont help....Once loaded it works fine but does on occassion comes up with not responding
