Recovery of Data in Thunderbird

more options

I have looked at the FAQ for this subject and I suspect I am out of luck. I believe Tbird automatically backs up data and stores it in a "profile" file. As I was trying to save documents etc. on my old PC with a view to selling it I encountered a serious problem which caused me to take it in for repair. The shop reported a damaged drive and have saved whatever data they could before returning the old hard drive. I now have a new PC, have installed TBird from the internet but as I was not able to save the original profile, I have lost all of the folders with saved emails. Is there any way to recover that information? Presumably it's still saved somewhere under my profile? I would be grateful for any advice about that.

Chosen solution

your profile is on your hard disk, so if you have access to the profile folder on your old hard disk, sure it will be there. If you don't then your plain out of luck.

Thank you Matt. Indeed that is the problem. The hard disk from the old PC was removed as there was a problem with it. The shop has returned it to me and as it was only 2 years old, whereas the warranty was for 3 years, I am taking it up with the Taiwanese manufacturers. The shop returned everything they could save on a flash drive, but I didn't notice anything which looked like "profile" but will have another look.

it will be in the windows hidden folder appdata in a folder called Thunderbird.

Thanks again Matt and apologies for the delay. I'm waiting to speak to the Tech shop to see if they can have another look at the old hard disk.

Tech Shop was able to find the old TBird profile which I now have on this new PC.

Thanks, this particular issue has now been resolved.
