I had to change Google account password for security reasons. I try to enter new password in Thunderbird but not recognized probably because of the 2 step authentication. Previously only way to make the account work was to remove it and add back the account. Any way to get around that?

If you choose to use 2 step authentication you need to generate an app specific password at gmail and use that instead of your normal password.

Once you do this you can edit the saved password, assuming you saved one in Thunderbird, by going to... Options-Security-passwords-Saved passwords Click Show passwords. Right click the old password and then Edit

This is true for POP accounts, but not necessarily for IMAP and SMTP.

What makes you believe 2-step authentication is the culprit?

What is your account type - POP or IMAP?
