Driving me nuts - i open Tbird - emails download automatically to Inbox. I go back later to read them - they are gone - not in trash, junk, spam, archives, or any other place in the program. How can I fix this? How can I retreive these emails I received or are they lost forever? At the same time, program will only intermittantly send and receive. Constantly asks for password and when I enter it, before it will send or receive it asks again. Over and over. Then later it will work intermittantly. So I know the password it good - also been using the same one for years. Makes no difference if I save it to the Password Vault.

Password vault, does that mean your using Norton's. If so disable email scanning. It will probably improved your sending issues immeasurably. Norton do not do email well in my option. It is like they only text it ith Microsoft products.

Mail going missing as you describe is something that crops up here quite a lot. The most common cause are folk using IMAP to retrieve mail and being unaware that the protocol is synchronized. They also use mail on their phone and it will use POP and remove the mail from the server and hence from Thunderbird.

So initially try turning off your phone and see if mail stops disappearing.

Thanks Matt, I have no Norton - never will. No outgoing email scanning. When TBird asks me intermittently for my password, I get a choice in the window to save it to the Password vault which must be a function of TBird. I guess you don't get those intermittent windows asking you for your password.

I don't own a cell phone. No solution here except for the comfort of knowing I am not alone with this issue. And since that one problem day earlier this week with emails disappearing from the In box - and constant requests for my password, TBird has been flying high with no issues. When it works it is a terrific program - except of course when it wiped out my hundreds of saved emails that no one could get back for me  :-(

Is "vault" a word you saw on the screen, or just one of your own choice? Thunderbird doesn't use the word "vault" so it's not clear yet if any third-party software is at work here.

Thanks Zeno - since I can not replicate the problem, I have to rely on my memory as to the wording. I seem to remember "Password Vault" but can not guarantee that exact word. However, fer sure when I tried to send or receive a window opened up asking for a password and there was a check box at the bottom that, regardless of the exact wording, allowed me to check it to save the password. If this is not a part of TBird I can not imagine what third party software I am using to create this window. If it occurs again I will check it more carefully.
