Hi, Can anyone please help. For several years I've used Thunderbird email for my talktalk email address with no problems at all, until 2 days ago when I set up a second email address. The second email address works fine but I now have a problem with my original and main address. I can receive emails but cannot send them, every time I try to send I get the error message "An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: 5.1.0 SywWbRSSVcpsk Authentication Required (TT401). Please verify that your email address is correct in your account settings and try again". I've checked the outgoing settings and tried different settings numerous times but no joy. Any idea's anyone. Thanks

It sounds like the outgoing server settings for your original (main) account have been messed up. In your Account Settings in Thunderbird, check that the correct server is still associated with the account. If the settings need changing, go to 'outgoing server' at the bottom of the list in the Account Settings window. Is the new, second email address you have just created (the one that is working well) also with TalkTalk? If so, it may be that you have created what Thunderbird regards as a second 'identity'. Identities have different addresses but use the same account. To understand more, read this: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/using-identities

Thanks for your help. After the usual ridiculous amount of time on the phone to talktalk they were useless. Just fixed it after banging my head against the wall for a day and a half, in the end it turned out to be an incorrect password problem, my fault of course. Thanks again for your help. James
