Thunderbird won't read in new mail. Probably caused by ESET

I see others have same problem with new emails not being read in, but I can't seem to find the answers to them... I just the problems listed. Spinning circle but no new mail since yesterday morning.

I tried disabling the SSL filtering in ESET, but that did not fix the problem.

Sorry, I don't know how to edit or add to original problem, so I'm adding response. Now my TB is reading in new mail (still have SSL filtering turned off), HOWEVER, the couple thousand old emails I deleted yesterday are back in my inbasket! I also did the "Compact" after I deleted the unwanted emails, if that helps solve the problem.
