What 'new update' are you talking about? What version are you currently using ?

If your computer updated to version 91.0.1 then it was not Thunderbird who performed the update. As per notes at link: Thunderbird 91 is only offered as direct download from thunderbird.net and not as an upgrade from Thunderbird version 78 or earlier. https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/91.0.1/releasenotes/

However, it is possible you have updater software on your computer perhaps even your Anti-Virus has this ability. I would strongly advise you only allow Thunderbird to perform updates.

In Thunderbird check this setting: Menu app icon > Preferences > General Scroll down to the 'Updates' section uncheck this checkbox 'Use a background service to install updates'.

Suggest you uninstall the Thunderbird program, then get a fresh download from here: https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/all/
