How do I trigger a silent update via the command line?

I need to find a way to trigger updates for Firefox silently via the command line, so that I can keep 8000+ endpoints up to date. I currently have taken to downloading the stub installer and firing it via script (I currently do this with Chrome also), but this is still messier than I'd like.

Is there a consistent way to start/call the update service to perform the updates in the background? Not all users start Firefox often, and as a result we cannot rely on any user initiated action. If Firefox is outdated on those machines, it gets flagged on security audits, and we have to prevent that. Ideally the command would not have to be modified for every single update, basically just something to trigger it to check for and apply any updates to both x86 and x64 would be great.

Thank you!

We don't have a good answer for this right now.

I'm curious, is this something other applications do?
