For the past few days the scrowling on firefox goes up/down at random and I have absolutely no control over it. It gets so bad I have to restart the computer in order to get anything done. I thought it could have been a virus but after not finding anything through various anti-viruses/spyware scans I even formatted my computer to be sure. The problem persists.

FYI the scrowling button on my mouse also does not work on firefox. This is the first time I've ever had this problem. I've tried the advanced options for scrowling and nothing. I think it's a result of the latest upgrade, I've tried downgrading it but it did not solve the problem.

I don't know what else to do.

Do you have that problem when running in the Firefox SafeMode? http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode Don't select anything right now, just use "Continue in SafeMode."

If not, see this: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/troubleshooting+extensions+and+theme...

Also check that you haven't switched on caret browsing: press F7 to toggle See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Scrolling_with_arrow_keys_no_longer_works

Tools > Options > Advanced : General: Accessibility: [[ ] "Always use the cursor keys to navigate within pages" See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Accessibility_features_of_Firefox

Thank you.

I'm currently in safe mode and still having the problem. My caret browsing is off. I don't know what to do anymore.

Can you try a different mouse? Did you check the settings in the Control Panel > Mouse ? It is possible that your mouse isn't working properly.

Did you restore any backups of the Firefox Profile Folder after reformatting the computer?
