how intertwined are Google and Firefox?

So I'm trying to get away from all contact with Google services. I've changed my browser to Firefox, search engine to duckduckgo, block 3rd party cookies etc. 6 months ago I looked at a website that I don't usually visit. Then last week I did a YouTube app search for a specific video and soon after the Firefox on android home page was showing the website I'd visited 6 months ago. I searched my Firefox history for last week and there nothing to say I'd searched for the topic. So this mustmean Google and Firefox are sharing data even though we explicitly go out of our way to avoid this. This means Firefox is not a privacy focused browser.

I don't think a search you do in the separate YouTube app (as contrasted with visiting youtube.com in Firefox) would affect what appears in the Top Sites section of the built-in home panels on Firefox for Android. The Top Sites section is based on Firefox history, and History obviously is Firefox history. Can you do some other tests to see whether there is cross-over on those?
