Why can't Firefox for Android download without separate add-on?

more options

The question is self-explanatory. Many websites use a right-click of the mouse to download content, on a PC. The Android version is to long-press the URL until a popup menu appears to select the desired function, like "Save Link". This very basic function is missing from Firefox for Android and the "Save Links Menu 0.2.1" add-on to correct this is less than useless... Saving files of 0.0 KB, instead of the content the URL links to. So, the question stands... Why is this basic browser functionality missing, when even the stock browser on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 can do this simple task?

On a side note, why is it that Mozilla does NOT bother to list changes/improvements related to Firefox for Android updates, on Google Play, as the vast majority of other apps do? I, for one, do not and will not install any update unless I know what's changed and why. I don't on my PCs and, given that I do not have the "Super User" equivalent of Administrator permissions, I'm far less inclined to install updates on Android devices with the knowledge that I might not be able to revert back to the previous version.

Here in support we generally work with the Firefox we have today, and we don't always have time to research "why" questions. To propose a change in Firefox for Android going forward, please submit your feedback on the following page:
