In the earlier version of Firefox, there used to be a blank tab at the end of the last tab. However, this is not present in the Version 4.0

If I understand your question, to get a fresh tab just click on the plus sign to the right of the last tab. A new tab will open. Or from the "file" menu above, click on "new tab" from the drop-down menu. Or finally (on a Mac at least), "Command + T" opens a new tab from the keyboard.

Yeah I know that a shortcut exists and another way is you can double click on the space beyond the last tab. What I am saying is it used to be there in the earlier versions and it was more easier to open a new tab.
