What mails? And what mail server are we talking about here? Unfortunately I think the site for the most part is english posting help.

My experience in formatting a hard disc is that everything is lost. After formatting, the entire disc should appear empty. If it was a quick format, then the data is still there, but need special software to retrieve content, and that is generally a complex task. But that's just my experience.
