I upgraded my Mac to OS 10.10.4 (Yosemite) and now, I have no scroll bar on Firefox windows. I can use the arrow down to get a scroll bar to appear, but this is terribly annoying. Even after I arrow down and the scroll bar appears, it will disappear again after non-use. Is there a setting to have the scroll bar visible at all times?

I suspect it's a system setting. The disappearing scrollbars were first introduced in MacOS X 10.9 Mavericks. See this thread for how to change them globally: why do the scroll bars quickly dissapear in firefox on OSX 10.9?

Does that fix it?

I have this problem on Windows 8.1. It is very annoying to have to hunt for the scroll bar which on a large webpage can be small. How can I make the scroll bar stay visible all the time?

Hi cburch3

This thread is about Firefox on a Mac. You are on Windows 8.1 and that is an entirely different platform and thus behaves differently.

Could you please create a new thread for your question.

If you want wider scroll bars then you would have to set that in the Windows display (appearance) settings.

  • Control Panel > Personalization > "Window Color and Appearance" > "Advanced appearance settings"

You can also have a look at large themes.
