In Firefox, that's called the Navigation Toolbar. From the menus:

View > Toolbars > Navigation Toolbar

If your menus are not visible, perhaps you are in full screen mode? The F11 key switches between full screen and normal mode.

thank you! I had also just read farther down the help page and discovered how to check it under view navigation tool bar...which is so simple but I hadn't been able to discover it on my own, plus all that stuff about resetting the defaults was a red herring (*_*)
