I'm porting Thunderbird from my W-10 PC to a new Mac. I tried some things and found help on the net. Heere are the steps I took:

WHAT DOESN'T WORK (but I did): Removed installed Profiles folder and saved on desktop. Transferred PC Profiles folder to same place in Mac.

Deleted PC folder from Mac. Replaced Mac Profiles folder had previously moved. Deleted installs.ini and profiles.ini Started Thunderbird which created new profiles in Profiles folder.

WHAT SHOULD WORK BUT DIDN'T (after above): Removed new contents of Profiles folder. Transferred contents of PC Profiles folder to Profiles folder on Mac. Got the following message: "Your Thunderbird profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible."

What did I do wrong? Do I need to uninstall Thunderbird and reinstall? Would that solve problems?

Thank you.

It finally works and I cannot tell you how. David's tips really helped and then I kept asking how Macs are organized differently from PCs. Thank you all.

I do not know MAC, but I'm familiar with the message. This generally means that the profile pointed to by profiles.ini does not exist. My sugestion is to let Thunderbird do the heavy lifting. On that, I suggest: - copy your desired profile to a desired place on the computer. - click help>troubleshootinginformation - scroll down to 'profile folders' and click 'about:profiles' - now, click the 'create profile' button in upper left - click next - enter name for the profile, such as, MYPROFILE - now, click the 'choose' button to locate and select the profile you placed in first step - now click to close and activate the profile. These steps ensure that the proper settings are being done for you. I hope these steps work for you.

Elegant solution above. BUT Thunderbird wouldn't open so I uninstalled and deleted Thunderbird folder from Users Library. Now Thunderbird won't download. Are there any remaining hidden files that may be preventing download. I'M ON A MAC.

Downloading is above my pay grade. If it won't download from thunderbird.net, there may be a browser problem? Sorry, I have no idea.

The donate screen comes up faster than I can click save. Downloads as an unconfirmed file. I have now, I think, deleted all hidden files.
