Have IMAP set up on main computer and POP on laptop. Need help changing them both to IMAP. I have lost emails as a result of main computer being set up as IMAP and my laptop being set up as POP. (at least that is what I think is happening. My main computer is Server Type: IMAP Mail Server, Server Name: IMAP.Iowatelecom.net, User name: jmillsp On my laptop the settings are Server Type: POP Mail Server, Server Name: pop.windstream.net, User name: jmillsp@iowatelecom.net So, should I change the laptop settings to be exactly like the main computer to change it to IMAP?? I noticed the user name is also different on both computers as is the server name even though they are both through the same company. one started out at Iowatelecom and went to WIndstream. Thanks for any help.

Same procedure except select IMAP not POP. You can not change an existing account in Thunderbird.

Sooo, are you saying I can't change my existing account on my laptop to IMAP? Can I, somehow, make a copy of what I have on my desktop computer and put it on my laptop? Maybe delete what I have on my laptop and start all over?

No! I am saying you add a new account to the install with pop as an imap account and it will then have a pop and imap connection. Then you can copy pop files somewhere else before you remove the pop account and by definition the folders in the folder pane for that account.

Sorry, I am not following you. I am wanting to not lose emails and I was thinking I needed to change pop to IMAP on the laptop. You are saying "add a new account to the install with pop as an imap account and it will then have a pop and imap connection." Now that I am reading this slower and trying to think about it, I may be understanding better. Sooo, I can go ahead and change the pop to Imap but would want to copy emails and save them in a different folder for safe keeping after that?

You can have imap settings accounts or pop3 Only. IF you are a mobile type follow imap. On both computers the same accounts MUST be set on imap basis.
