Thunderbird keeps forgetting all my e-mail accounts

I've been using Thunderbird on Ubuntu for several years. Lately, every other time I turn on my machine, I open Thunderbird and it's completely blank - all the e-mail accounts whose details I painstakingly entered are gone, and I have to add them all back. This has happened at least twice in the past couple of weeks.

The first time it happened Thunderbird opened to a splash screen with some information about how my profiles had been... something something... I don't know, I just kind of clicked buttons until my e-mail accounts came back. Now there's not even that, it's just blank, and I don't see anything about importing past profiles.

How can I get my stuff back? 87.0b1 (64-bit) ubuntu-snap-build - 1.0.

Chosen solution

Open TB, even if it's an empty profile, Help/Troubleshooting, Profile Folder, Open Directory, to open the profile folder; go up one level to see all profile folders. Close TB before making any edits.

Thanks. Where is the profiles folder under Ubuntu? It's not under ~/.thunderbird, as I've seen claimed online (that folder doesn't exist on my machine).
