Can anyone please help me to restore and stop Thurderbird from printing on a remote printer (which I printed on once) back to printing on the default local one?

One solution I've seen is to "delete the printer entry, use the print preview to select the other printer" and the suggestion is that " the last used printer will become your default in Thunderbird".

This is not the case for me. It's now over a month Thurderbird has not changed from the remote printer even though every time I'm printing I specifically have to pick the local printer. Much appreciated

re :One solution I've seen is to "delete the printer entry...... I'm presuming you followed the advise, but could you tell me exactly what you did to 'delete the printer entry' ?

Did you do this:

  • 'Menu icon' > 'Options' > 'Options' > 'Advanced' > 'General' tab
  • click on 'Config Editor' button - it will tell you to be careful :)
  • In top Search type: printer
  • then for each entry which mentions the wrong printer
  • right click on line and select 'Reset'

work down through list doing this to every line that mentions the wrong printer.

  • close Window - top right x
  • click on OK
  • Close thunderbird
  • Restart Thunderbird.

Close Thunderbird. On your computer Control Panel > Printers please check to see which printer is selected as default. select the one you want as default.

Restart Thunderbird select email Menu icon > Print > Print Preview click on Print and tell the forum what printer is auto selected.

I hope the attached print screen image turns up clear for you to see.

I have a default mono OKI printer which is set (in Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Devices and Printers) for everything unless I specifically need colour then I choose another printer. However, I cannot seem to pursued Thurderbird to learn that it should be printing on the OKI. I have not printed on any other printer for more than a month and yet my request to print always default on ES4711(PCL) in Thurderbird. It seems to forget each time I print on the oki that that's what it should point to. Help

This solution, to delete the offending print profile through Config editor did after a fashion succeed in displaying the correct default system printer. My problem dealt with the Fox-it PDF printer. To get a complete and repeatable default printer when printing a TB message I had to use the config editor on all the Fox-it entries, close down TB and try the print button. But the first time the printer default selection was to the Fox-it PDF printer. Then I closed down the printer interface and selected Print Preview, there I selected my system default printer (Canon MX922 printer), Now whenever I select the Print button the Canon is the default printer. BTW, the Canon MX922 printer was the default printer in Win 7 Printers and Devices.
