I have used Thunderbird as my main E-Mail app on my desktop machine which is still running under XP for many years. A week ago I started having problems to do with the sent file and E-Mails sent kept having a number of error messages while I was still composing the E-Mail. You could continue to complete the E-Mail but when you went to SEND (done by hitting Control and Entry as there is no SEND button visible.) This produced a more complex error message about temp files and an E-Mail that has no content but does show the names of the sender and of the recipient. I have been trying to get help from BTTechExperts but that only has a work around using Yahoo which I regard as unsatisfactory as I preferred your app. I hope you will be able to help me with this problem. Lets try to resolve the various issues one at a time.

Q: SEND (done by hitting Control and Entry as there is no SEND button visible.)

In a 'Write' window, you should see two toolbars at the top. Menu Bar: File , Edit, View etc Composition Toolbar: Send, Spelling, Attach, Security, Save etc

Can you see both Toolbars?

If you can only see the 'Menu Bar': View > Toolbars > Select 'Composition Toolbar'

If you can see both Toolbars, but there is no 'Send'. View > Toolbars > Customise If there is a 'Send' icon, drag to the 'Composition Toolbar' and drop on far left.

Alternatively, click on 'Restore default set' button click on 'Done' button to close customise window.

Confirm: the 'Send' button is back and you can see all toolbars.

Q: produced a more complex error message about temp files

Did that message sound like this?

Send of message failed. Temporary File C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Temp\nsmail.tmp could not be opened. Check your Settings for "Temporary Directory".

the message you got will be specific about the directory. So next time you try to send, stop and make a note of that error message. You need to locate that directory and delete the 'nsmail.tmp' file. This 'Temp' folder only contains temp files, so they can be deleted.

You could use Windows search for files, but remember to select the 'Advanced Search' and select the checkbox to 'Include non indexed, hidden and system files'.
