Now that I'm using the new version, 3.1, the icons that used to be at the beginning of the addressee fields are gone! I need them back, please! Now, to change or delete an address I must click and swipe the whole name to highlight it rather than, previously, I could click on the icon and highlight the entire name and make my changes in one fell swoop. Please bring back the the addressee icon! It's very helpful. Thanks.

Chosen solution

I hadn't noticed that those icons had any useful purpose.

I use this add-on:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/address-close-button/?src=api

which adds an explicit delete "button" to each address entry.

You may also find that ctrl+a (on the keyboard) or a triple-click can be used to select all the text in an addressing box.
