Upgrade your browser to Firefox 12 and check
Hotmail (login.live.com) uses JavaScript to generate the login form and the Firefox password manager doesn't work in cases like that.
You can use remember form data to save the user name.
- Tools > Options > Privacy > History: "Remember search and form history"

You can look at this extension to store the name and password, but Firefox won't be able to fill it, so it is only a reminder.
