Rather than export my entire calendar I would like to export a single calendar invite. If that's possible I could forward an invite created by someone else to a third party.

Can't you simply forward the invitation you received?

When I get an invitation it appears in my calendar and I receive an email notice - but I don't receive an icalendar file. I can forward the email, but the recipient cannot add themselves to the invite - they have to recreate it if they want it to appear in their calendar. If I can forward an .ics file, the receiver can drag and drop to their own calendar.

I don't understand that. Are you saying an event magically appears in your calendar, and then you're notified via email? I'd be surprised if it works that way.

I wouldn't expect you can forward an invitation 'as is'. You'd possibly need to show the source of the invitation, extract the calendar data and save it as an .ics file. Then you can forward the .ics file. I haven't tried that though.

That sounds like it would work. How can I "show the source of the invitation, extract the calendar data and save it as an .ics file"?

In the message window press Ctrl-U to get the source. Then copy and paste.

Seems kinda klunky. Would be really useful to have a command "Export as", with icalendar file format one of the options. Similar to the "Convert to" command for Message or Task.

Hmm, invitations are ICS files. Thunderbird recognizes them and displays a user interface to manage them. That does not alter the fact that the invitation is an ICS file. So you need no buttons. Just to click the forward button. Disable the Lightning add-on and have a look at your invitations if you have doubts.

The show all body parts add-on adds an option to the view menu > Message body as to display all body parts. Selecting this option should also, I think, display the ICS attachment. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/show-all-body-parts/?src=ss
