One year ago there was already a discussion about: Why are my webpages transferring data from www.chaosserver.com? The Chosen Solution was: Chaosserver.com is part of this company: http://www.chaossoftware.com/ Does that ring any bells?

I'm sorry, but that rings no bell with me. So I have to ask again: Firefox is endlessly transferring data from www.chaosserver.com. How can I stop it?

gvagai,

The thread /questions/821153#answer-182212 you have now linked to may provide an answer or at lest a good clue:

Thank you. Yes, apaarently the clock on the website originates from part of chaossoftware. Thanl you for your help

(I unlocked the thread. I see no reason or explanation for it being locked, and assume it was an error -J99 )

Can you please describe your problem in a bit more detail ?

I am guessing you have installed software that uses the site you mention !

(Possibly you could give a link to the discussion you are talking about if it is on this forum or some public forum)

The second "question" first: https://support.mozilla.org/de/questions/821153 First question: I go to my own website http://www.gavagai.de/ and that is almost always OK. But it happened some weeks before and today again that Firefox tells me at the left bottom: Trasferring data from www.chaosserver.com (my translation of the message in German). From the above mentioned discussion with the (mysterious to me) solution: Chaosserver.com is part of this company: http://www.chaossoftware.com/ Does that ring any bells? I thought everybody knew the reason but me.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.
