When downloading a data file when asked what to open the file with I told it excel. I had forgotten that while the enclosed files were excel, the active file was a winzip file.

Hi imseansmom,

Try going to Tools > Options > Applications. There you can specify what you want to do with each file type.

You can find detailed information in the Applications panel - Set how Firefox handles different types of files Knowledge Base article.

Hopefully this helps!

Also, if the problem persists you can try deleting the mimetypes.rdf file in the Firefox Profile Folder after exiting Firefox.
