Thunderbird's option for a custom deletion folder in IMAP accounts does not work. This is the option under Tools -> Account Settings -> (select account) -> Server Settings -> When I delete a message -> Move it to this folder: (select custom folder). I tried this with a Gmail account because I want the messages to go to a custom folder (label) when I delete them. After I delete the message in Thunderbird, the message ends up in [Gmail]/Trash and not in the custom deletion folder that I specified in the settings. Please confirm this is a bug? Was the option simply not implemented correctly?

I set up my Gmail account with a new label "my-junk" selected it in account settings as the trash-folder deleted several mails ALL ended up in my-junk.

Was your trash folder in Local-folders?

I must change my answer. After restarting Thunderbird and checking webmail everyt´hing changed Nothing in Thunderbird -My-Junk but in Gmail-my-junk Some in both trash.

Set up the same in another account (not Gmail) and my-junk worked as a trash-folder It was just a renamed trash-folder so it followed the rules I set up and emptied at exit.

What I found is that Gmail think its a ordinary label and Thunderbird its a trash-folder With Empty trash at exit Thunderbird will delete what it think is the trash. And send to Gmail to delete what has that "my-junk" -label setting the deleted-label and showing it in Trash
