I updated FF to ver. 9, now it will not open at all. I have tried downloading it and re-installing, but I get an error message that: FF is already running and that it must be shutdown first. Then I tried to uninstall FF in completely, but again I get the message that it is "already running and must shutdown first." Also, I have tried to open FFin safe mode, but that does not work either. Vista all my AV is up to date. Side note IE9 and chrome work fine. Thanks.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.

If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

cor-el, I tried to create a new profile but that did not work. Although, the last link on the bottom of your post "FF already running" was helpful. I did go into task manager and shutdown FF (there were 2 instances of it running). Sadly I still cannot open FF and when I try to uninstall I still get the same error message. Thanks.
